Actress who played Chandler’s love interest pays tribute to Matthew Perry

One of Chandler Bings’ girlfriends on Friends has paid triobute to Matthew Perry after his passing.

Sofia Milos, who played Aurora on the hit sitcom, shared a video on Sunday of one of the scenes she shared with Perry alongside a heartfelt message.

‘I loved playing ur girlfriend AURORA to ur brilliant CHANDLER on FRIENDS and will always cherish the memory My condolences to ur family, friends & millions of fans around the world,’ the actress wrote.

‘Thank you for years of laughter & joy with your talent.’

‘The one where our hearts are broken’

‘This truly is The One Where Our Hearts Are Broken,’ Friends co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane, and executive producer Kevin Bright, said in a statement.

‘We will always cherish the joy, the light, the blinding intelligence he brought to every moment – not just to his work, but in life as well. He was always the funniest person in the room. More than that, he was the sweetest, with a giving and selfless heart.’

Perry’s 10 seasons on Friends made him one of Hollywood’s most recognizable actors, starring opposite Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer as a friend group in New York.

As Chandler, he played the quick-witted, insecure and neurotic roommate of LeBlanc’s Joey and a close friend of Schwimmer’s Ross. During the show’s hijinks, he could be counted on to chime in with a line like ‘Could this BE any more awkward?’ or another well-timed quip.

Just last year the actor revealed that he and Jennifer had stayed in each other’s lives, and remained in close contact.

‘She was the one that reached out the most,’ the star said of the actress who played Rachel Green during an interview in October 2022. ‘You know, I’m really grateful to her for that.’

Perry went on to reveal that it was Aniston who confronted him first about his addictions during the filming of their hit sitcom when the symptoms were just to evident to ignore.

‘We know you’re drinking,’ Aniston, now 54, told Perry at the time in the four-word warning, during a break in the shooting of Friends back when it was massively popular with fans.

‘Yeah, imagine how scary a moment that was,’ the actor said of his co-star during the conversation with ABC’s Diane Sawyer.

In his own mind, Perry thought he was doing a perfectly fine job hiding his drug and alcohol usage from his co-stars, but at a certain point they all knew he was in trouble and did their best to support him.

‘[They] were understanding, and they were patient,’ he recalled of the Friends cast. ‘It’s like penguins. Penguins, in nature, when one is sick, or when one is very injured, the other penguins surround it and prop it up. They walk around it until that penguin can walk on its own. That’s kind of what the cast did for me.’

The comedian, 63, tweeted a link to TMZ’s coverage of the actor’s passing on Saturday with the caption, ‘DROWNED IN A HOT TUB. HAHAHAHA.’

Kevin, who hosts a podcast called Misery Loves Company, then replied to a tweet of TMZ’s coverage of his comments with the headline ‘Ex-SNL Writer-Comedian Kevin Brennan Mocks Matthew Perry’s Death.’

On Sunday, he replied: ‘I didn’t mock it. I just thought it was funny. But I do love it when junkies die.’

In response to a user who asked Kevin: ‘Why is drowning in a hot tub funny?’ he replied: ‘Because it’s not very deep.’

Kevin faced a wave of criticism for his vile remarks, but refused to back down and continued to make jokes.

He took to Twitter once again on Monday to ask: ‘Am I trending yet?’

People reacted in disgust, with one person commenting: ‘That’s EXACTLY why I said you would do it, you waste of space!! Anything for attention, even if it’s negative. Enjoy your 90 seconds of fame.’

Another person wrote: ‘For reminding people what a loser you are? Yes, yes you are,’ while a third echoed: ‘He’s literally the only reason anyone is finding out who you are lol so Matthew gets the last laugh.’

A fourth agreed, saying: ‘For all the wrong reasons. Who the hell says they “love when junkies die.” Read the room.

Perry’s Odd Couple co-star Yvette Nicole Brown remembers late actor

Yvette Nicole Brown has opened up about the death of her Odd Couple co-star Matthew Perry.

‘It was important for me to speak about Matthew because I know there are so many others who loved him so dearly who cannot right now. The heartbreak I feel is nowhere near what they are surely feeling in this devastating moment. Until they can speak,’ Brown said on Twitter while linking to an interview where she spoke about Perry.

‘There’s been so much talk about his comedy, and his ability to lighten loads with his gift. But his greatest gift was his heart… He did not take himself seriously. He realized that he was extraordinarily blessed,’ she told Entertainment Tonight.

The actress recalled the last text she sent Perry, who was beloved in the recovery community for his willingness to help others through addiction.

‘I sent him a text to congratulate him because one of his greatest joys later in life was that he was able to help people who had been where he was. I was so proud of him for his sobriety. I was so proud of him for being as vulnerable as he was in his book.’

She added: ‘To admit that you’re sad, or to admit that you’re struggling, or to admit that you’re an addict, and you’ve fallen off the wagon, is very difficult… On The Odd Couple, when we were working with Matthew, we had a front row seat to his struggles, and we loved him, and we wanted to protect him, and we did the best we could while we were working with him.’

An emotional Brown said Perry was ‘really lovely,’

‘[I hope] that people can see the man behind the comedic legend. And that we can celebrate that his hope and joy was helping others to survive what he fought for most of his life… I hope he’s remembered as a fighter. I hope he’s remembered as someone that never gave up hope. I hope that he is remembered as… a friend,’ Brown said.

‘Because he really was… He was a pal. He was a buddy. He was a good time. He was a vibe. You know? So I hope that when people think of him, they’ll smile.’

Charlie Puth pays tribute to Matthew Perry in Melbourne

Charlie Puth honored late Friends star Matthew Perry during this weekend in Melbourne, Australia.

Just hours after the tragic news of Perry’s death broke on Saturday, Puth played the iconic Friends theme song, I’ll Be There For You.

The crowd sang along as Puth transitioned into his 2015 song with Wiz KhalifaWhen I See You Again, which is inspired by a friend’s death.

Puth has been open about his love of Friends, and once showed off his knowledge of the sitcome in a quiz handed out by Courtney Cox, who played Monica.

Last winter Perry became gravely ill, a source told DailyMail.com

‘We were all worried he would not recover this time. He spent over a month in the hospital, causing him to lose weight and look haggard and worn out.

‘But somehow, as Matthew always seems to do, he survived and held out hope that new job or that new woman was just around the corner.

‘All Matt ever wanted was to be happy,’ says the source. ‘But he was always looking for love and happiness in all the wrong places. How sad that when he died he was reportedly alone.’

The Friends star, 54, longed for stepchildren, thanks to his great relationship with his own stepdad, Dateline’s Keith Morrison.

‘He wanted a wife, and at least a couple of kids. And he said he wouldn’t even mind marrying a woman who already had kids,’ a source said.

Perry’s mother Suzanne and stepfather have been happily married for 42 years.

The actor said Keith always treated him as if he were his own son and it would be great to give a good life to children that belong to someone he loved the way Keith loved his mom – and him.

Matthew Perry was lonely and longing for a wife and a family when he died, after a string of failed relationships left him feeling ‘sad and depressed,’ sources told DailyMail.com.

He never married and he ended his engagement to Molly Hurwitz, a talent manager, in 2021. He also dated several well-known actresses throughout his life, including Julia Roberts and Lizzy Caplan.

Perry was also mystified by the fact that most of his Friends costars seemed to escape lasting love too, the sources said.

‘Lately the star has been looking for love again. But a string of failed relationships left him feeling sad and depressed, and as if he would never find that love he longed for.

‘Matthew dated dozens of women. But in the end, he always felt they were only interested in his money and his fame. And he was generous to a fault.

‘He would shower women with gifts only to have them pack up their goodies and walk away.

‘In the end I think his years of fighting demons… Drugs and alcohol… Took a toll on him, and on his health, and eventually he would end up alone again.’

Perry’s Friends ‘dad’ reacts to his death

Kathleen Turner, who played Chandler’s trangender father Helena Handbasket, has reacted to the star’s death.

‘It’s extremely sad when you think about how young [he was] and a pity he couldn’t get more control,’ she told PEOPLE. ‘I can’t imagine the pressure those guys lived under being a worldwide phenomenon. It must have been overwhelming.’

The actress said she still gets recognized for her time on the hit show.

‘I am still constantly recognized by a certain age group as Chandler‘s dad,’ she shared as she noted how close the show’s cast became.

She added: ‘I need to emphasize that these kids were a tight group. I was more in and out of his life.

‘They were a clique, all of them. They were a very tight knit group.’

Turner has been open about her own complex relatioship with alcohol, telling The Guardian in January that she checked herself into rebah in 2002.

‘It was incredibly stupid. I had this thing in my head where I thought: ‘I’m not taking pain pills – they are addictive and dangerous.” But it was OK to have that second or third vodka.’

Turner said she did not consider herself an acoholic, but stopped drinking for a few years and now has an occational cocktail.

She said: ‘I’m not an alcoholic, but I am an abuser [of drink]… I don’t imagine I’ll ever drink like that again.’

Fools Rush In producer remembers Matthew Perry

Doug Draizin, who directed the 1997 filk staring Perry and Salma Hayek, has reacted to the Friends star’s death.

The director shared she was with his son at a football game when he learned of the tragic news.

‘We’re at the football game and my son looks at me and goes, ‘Matt Perry just died,’ Draizin told The New York Post. ‘The irony of it is [that] my son is the reason we made ‘Fools Rush In.’It was about his birth. That’s the reason how this movie organically got made.’

The film, which was Perry’s first big-screen role, stars him as a fictionalized version of Draizin. The movie tells Draizin’s real-life story with his ex-wife, played by Hayek.

Draizin added: ‘His dad, John Bennett Perry, was also in the movie [playing Perry’s father] and I remember they had such a reunion on the set, spending that time together.

‘Matt came from a very difficult divorce, so having his father there and working together … I know it really made him proud.

‘I’ve got this beautiful poster of Matt and Salma Hayek and now, when I look at it, instead of elation I feel sadness… This kid I’m staring at is dead.’
