Livid Lucy Bronze almost takes Ella Toone’s head off with a chair in World Cup meltdown | Football | Sport

Those high demands are what have driven the Lionesses to new heights under Wiegman as they look to go further than 2019, having been defeated by the US in the semi-finals.

Despite a slow start to the tournament, England now look in full gear in their best performance so far at the World Cup – much to the delight of Weigman despite being unable to top the performance off with a clean sheet.

The head coach has explained the role that Bronze has in the squad, pointing out the leadership capabilities that the Barcelona star possesses – leading by example against China.

“Lucy has an incredible role in our team as a leader,” Wiegman said last year. “Even when not wearing the band, she is still a leader. She’s also very connected from the start during the games, the vision she has, and the intelligence in the game can really translate the way we want to play and how to solve things.”
