F1 LIVE: Leclerc snubs Mercedes for ‘new Ferrari deal’ as Verstappen frightens Coulthard | F1 | Sport

David Coulthard has detailed how he was just 50cm away from being run over by Max Verstappen at the Austrian Grand Prix.

Speaking on the Formula for Success podcast, Coulthard revealed that he was standing in front of the Red Bull garage in the pit lane at the time and he took his phone out to record the upcoming pit stop.

But Coulthard was left frightened as Verstappen zoomed right past him, narrowly missing his foot.

He added: “I did the post-race interviews and after the Channel 4 broadcast ended, I flew with Max back to the south of France, back to Monaco. He gets on the plane and says to me, ‘Did you like it when I got so close tore past you?'”

“I asked him if he knew it was me and he replied, ‘Yeah, I shouldn’t have driven so close to you, but I just wanted to give you a fright’.”
