EXCLUSIVE: Married At First Sight’s Mishel Karen claims Seb Guilhaus was anxious at porn convention just days before drug arrest and believes fame from dating show ‘took a toll on him’

Former Married At First Sight star Seb Guilhaus shocked fans of the Channel Nine series this week when he was arrested and charged with drug trafficking after a dramatic police raid on his Adelaide home.

Now one of his co-stars has revealed Guilhaus, 35, was ‘seriously anxious’ just days before his arrest and the aftermath of the hit reality show may be partially to blame for his downward spiral.

Mishel Karen, 52, appeared on Married At First Sight’s seventh season with Guilhaus in 2020, and now they both currently work in the adult entertainment industry.

The pair appeared at the LoveX Australia sex and porn convention in Brisbane last month, where Karen noticed that Guilhaus was ‘stressed’ about something that had happened to a friend.

‘He was very nervous and stressed, he couldn’t relax. I tried getting him on stage but he was seriously anxious,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.

Karen also added the former personal trainer was ‘really focused on making money from his OnlyFans’.

The grandmother called Guilhaus ‘lovely’ and expressed her concern that his time on Married At First Sight may have contributed to his recent anxiety.

‘He was so together during MAFS, but it never leaves you. You get better after the show, but you always go down again,’ she said.

‘The thing with being on Married At First Sight is you’re never taken seriously again in your profession, and he was a fitness instructor and the novelty of Seb being on reality TV is probably what people were interested in, rather than what he had to offer,’ she explained.

‘I feel like the same thing happened to me and lots of us. It’s a struggle to be taken seriously and then you do something like OnlyFans and maybe you’re okay with it, but maybe you’re not deep down,’ she continued.

Karen previously worked as a policy trainer at Queensland Police, but said she was judged in the workplace following her time on MAFS, so she eventually turned to sex work to make ends meet.

‘I think we struggle with mental health after Married At First Sight because maybe we don’t know we are. Are we the TV character or who we thought we were?’ she mused.

Guilhaus was arrested on Friday by Serious and Organised Crime Branch detectives at his Croydon property, where officers allegedly seized almost a 1kg of methamphetamine, with a street value worth at least $90,000.

He appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court late on Friday, charged with one count of trafficking in a commercial quantity of methamphetamine, reports The Advertiser.

Guilhaus, who was remanded in custody to appear for a bail hearing later this week, appeared on season seven of MAFS in 2020.

He was partnered on the Channel Nine show with fan-favourite bride Lizzie Sobinoff, but they split a year later, in 2021.

Guilhaus previously worked as a personal trainer before joining subscription-based adult website OnlyFans and launching a career as a porn star.

Detective Superintendent Billy Thompson, the Serious and Organised Crime Branch officer in charge of the bust, described the 870g of meth found as ‘significant’.

‘Methamphetamine causes terrible harm to users and to our communities,’ he said.

‘This seizure is a significant amount and would have a street value of approximately $90,000.

‘Those who traffic illicit drugs in these amounts do so purely for their own greed, they have no care for others.’

Before his stint on reality television, Guilhaus played 48 games in the South Australia National Football League where he booted 15 goals.

In 2021 he was named one of Adelaide’s ‘most eligible singles’.

In June, the bodybuilder shared pictures of his gym-honed physique with his 92,000 Instagram followers.

‘Just over 4 months till International Fitness and Body Building Pro League in Sydney. I’ve been building up my weaker areas – predominately back and posing,’ the accompanying caption read.

‘Progress breeds progress… when all faculties are in order (diet, sleep, spiritual well-being) training follows suit. Continued work on my mental health, discipline and routine will allow me to bring a more refined package to stage in October.’

One of his latest OnlyFans projects was a collaboration with fellow MAFS star Hayley Vernon, who has also transitioned into porn since their stint on the show.
