Five players struggle

It wasn’t the best evening for William Saliba. The France star was making his first appearance at the Emirates since March after recovering from his back injury.

However, if it wasn’t a friendly, he surely would have been sent off. He was given a yellow card by referee Anthony Taylor for a late tackle in the first half and easily could have been given another just a few minutes later.

Saliba and Kiwior did not look comfortable as the centre-back pairing and Monaco easily could have scored more than they did. In truth, the whole Arsenal backline struggled.

Jurrien Timber showed some good flashes at times but he and fellow full-back Takehiro Tomiyasu were often caught out as Monaco created a number of clear-cut chances. With Oleksandr Zinchenko still out with a muscular problem, Arteta must decide who he thinks is best to play at left-back with just 10 days remaining before the Premier League season opener against Nottingham Forest.

Fabio Vieira came in for Saka on the right of attack. He had a couple of nice moments in the game but overall was wasteful in the final third, seeing countless crosses blocked, and failed to take his opportunity handed to him by Arteta.
