Andy Murray earns Canadian Open victory over Lorenzo Sonego in nine-year return to Toronto | Tennis | Sport

Murray now faces either Felix Auger-Alissime, the home hero, or qualifier Max Purcell. Speaking after the match, the former world No 1 admitted that the windy conditions proved difficult. “Yeah, really not pleasant to play,” he said.

“Really blustery, you know, changing direction during the point. We knew coming in it was going to feel uncomfortable, we hit on this court this morning and it’s been really breezy so I was expecting it but it just adds a bit of stress to the match.”

“It was a really tight first set, it was lots of opportunities each way and then yeah managed to sneak through the tiebreak and after that, he was obviously a bit disappointed and I relaxed a little bit.”
