Detached house: Why it is right to limit new construction

The majority of Germans want to live in single-family houses. This is understandable, but yesterday. It’s time to let the dream burst at least a little – as is happening in Münster right now.

Recently it became known that the city of Münster wants to restrict the construction of new single-family homes. They take up too much space and seal up too much area, which is not climate-friendly. The topic immediately caused outrage, not only among the pathologically overwrought commentators on Twitter, Facebook and Co.

And yet the considerations of the Münster council are correct (and there are now similar ones in Hamburg, Wiesbaden and other places): it cannot go on like this with the surface consumption. Not in all of Germany. It’s high time to break taboos. No more new single-family house settlements.
