Despite a few breakdowns, line B of the metro in transit times

She experienced a mega breakdown on Wednesday which forced her to stop her traffic for several hours between the Beaulieu-University stations and the Cesson ViaSilva terminus. Since its commissioning on September 20, line B of the Rennes metro has also been faced with a few technical hiccups which have temporarily disrupted traffic. But overall, the service works pretty well.

Long awaited, line B also seems to have found its audience. After a strong start to the first week with 120,000 trips on the first day and an average of 100,000 trips the following five days, traffic had stabilized around 70,000 trips this fall. The figure now stands at around 85,000 trips per day.

The 19 interior escalators of line A replaced

“This corresponds to the forecasts with a gradual increase in load which should allow us to reach 110,000 trips in 2024”, welcomes Matthieu Theurier, vice-president of the metropolis in charge of transport. As expected, line A also benefited from the arrival of its little sister with an average of 145,000 trips per day, i.e. a gain of 15,000 to 20,000 trips since the opening of line B.

Commissioned in March 2002, line A will also undergo major work in the coming months with the replacement of its 19 interior escalators. The construction site will begin on July 3 at Kennedy station and will continue until 2025. This will lead to “an unavailability of the escalators for six to thirteen weeks depending on the case”, specifies the metropolis.
