They were ultimately happy with the point. But the relief over the 2-2 draw in the city derby at FC St. Pauli was also mixed with anger at HSV: Shouldn’t the two goals conceded have counted?
The 0-1 by Jackson Irvine was preceded by a push by St. Pauli’s Karol Mets against Jonas Meffert. The HSV midfielder, who was supposed to protect the backcourt, fell and the unmarked Jackson Irvine scored to make it 0-1. Before the HSV goal kick, immediately before the 0:2, two Kiezkickers, Elias Saad and Johannes Eggestein, were on the line of the penalty area – an irregularity.
HSV boss Boldt on the goals conceded: “There are clear rules”
HSV sports director Jonas Boldt was really annoyed. “I have a clear opinion on both goals that they are irregular,” he said on the Sky microphone. “There are clear rules.”
Meffert explained the scene before the 0-1: “It’s a derby and I’m the last person to fall down during something like that.” And he didn’t do that either, the 29-year-old assured – but: “He’s running full speed into me with an outstretched hand. In midfield that would 100 percent be a foul. In my opinion that could have been taken back.”

In the St. Pauli camp they saw things differently. “Meffert also lets himself be a bit theatrical,” explained Kiezklub coach Fabian Hürzeler. And about the discussion itself: “You can arrange everything as it suits you.”
