deposed president Mohamed Bazoum appeals to West African justice for his release

The deposed Nigerien president Mohamed Bazoum has decided to take legal action in West Africa to obtain his release and the restoration of constitutional order in Niger, after a coup d’état which overthrew him on July 26, announced Wednesday September 20 to AFP his Senegalese lawyer, Seydou Diagne. The petition, filed on September 18 before the Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), invokes “arbitrary arrest” And “the violation of the freedom to come and go” of President Bazoum, detained in his residence. In the event of a favorable decision, “Niger State has(ura) the legal obligation to execute the decision”said the lawyer.
