Dobrindt calls for a ban on national symbols

In order to protect symbols such as the Brandenburg Gate, CSU regional group leader Alexander Dobrindt would like to restrict freedom of demonstration within a certain radius. Whether his idea is effective?
“We are experiencing the misuse or contempt of our national symbols such as the Brandenburg Gate by anti-Israel demonstrators or climate chaotic people. Many of our neighbors in Europe are just as stunned as we are by these images from Germany,” said Dobrindt.
In Germany, the Bundestag and the state parliaments in particular are protected by ban miles. Freedom to demonstrate is restricted within a certain circle around the buildings. However, this can hardly prevent color attacks like the last generation at the Brandenburg Gate. In March, activists from this group poured black paint on the Basic Law monument, which is located within the restricted zone around the Reichstag building.
