Juliana Lumumba sits in a chair in her house in Kinshasa, looks out into the garden and wipes her eyes with a cloth. Again and again. You could imagine her as a very sad woman, angry, desperate. Oh, quite the opposite, she says, laughs, no tears. She pours artificial tears from a bottle so that the eyes don’t get so dry. Behind her is a small chest of drawers with a remote control for the air conditioning on it. It’s stiflingly hot again.
