Delivery bottlenecks – concerns in the chemical industry

Actually, the year wasn’t all that bad for the German chemical-pharmaceutical industry. Production rose by a total of 4.5 percent, in the pharmaceutical industry alone because of the corona vaccines by 5.5 percent. Sales increased by a total of 15.5 to around 220 billion euros. However, supply bottlenecks and the significantly higher prices for energy create problems for the companies, said Christian Kullmann, President of the industry association VCI. According to surveys, over a third of the companies had to cut production, and around ten percent even shut down individual systems. Kullmann does not expect the situation to relax until the summer of 2022 at the earliest. For the coming year, the association expects an increase in production of two percent and an increase in sales of five percent.
