defeated by Valenciennes, no climb for Le Havre tonight

This Monday, Le Havre had the opportunity to make its rise official by winning against Valenciennes, relegated (18th), at home. Defeated on the VAFC lawn at the start of the season (1-0), Luka Elsner’s men therefore had a great opportunity to take revenge against the Valenciennes who only won one of their 10 trips to the antechamber of the elite. The meeting started however in the worst possible way for the locals who conceded the opener on a panenka from Adrian Grbic (0-1, 7th). In difficulty against an aggressive and offensive Valenciennes, the leaders of Ligue 2 could not deploy their game during the first act. Definitely in difficulty, Le Havre even conceded the break at the very end of the first period on an overpowered strike from Mohammed Kaba (0-2, 45 + 2nd).

Upon returning from the locker room, Le Havre then showed itself to be more enterprising. When the locals almost scored to come back, they were unsuccessful (63rd, 70th). Unable to score, the Le Havre then resigned themselves to defeat, their third this season and their second in a row after that against Annecy last week (1-0). A bitter setback for the latter who were dominated for a good part of the meeting and who could have celebrated the climb in front of their public. Worse, Bordeaux, second, is only two units from Le Havre in the standings. For its part, Valenciennes made a big move in the standings by jumping from 18th to 14th place in the standings. Now non-relegation, there is no doubt that this prestigious victory should give them the confidence to approach a tough end to the season in a serene way.
