Deep Sea Record: Researchers Film and Capture Fascinating Creature (Video)

Watch the video: Double record – researchers film and capture fascinating deep-sea creature.

STORY: Welcome to the wonderful world of the deep sea. The University of Western Australia and the Tokyo University of Marine Science have been researching for 10 years. The scientists made spectacular film recordings and exciting discoveries, such as this snail fish from the Liparidae family. In August 2022, the fish was filmed at a depth of 8,336 meters in the Izu-Ogasawara Trench. This set a new record for deep-sea film recordings. The researchers are trying to find out more about the fascinating fish species that live in the deep sea. Alan Jamieson, chief scientist on the expedition: “Most people are told by the age of two or three that the deep sea is a scary place to avoid. And even the best documentaries in the world will tell you that the deep sea is a cold, dark, alien place full of monsters, but it misses the fact that the deep sea makes up most of planet earth and that we should focus our resources on understanding it and figuring out how to affect it and how it works.” According to the scientists, the snail fish were caught at a depth of 8,022 meters. According to the researchers, they are therefore the first fish to be caught from a depth of over 8,000 meters.
