Debeka – psyche often triggers for occupational disability – economy

If people can no longer work or no longer work fully for health reasons, this is most often due to mental illness. At the fourth-largest German life insurer Debeka, they were the cause in 40.6 percent of all new cases in occupational disability insurance in 2020. In 2019 it was 44.1 percent. According to the Koblenz company, the rate has always been between 40 and 45 percent in recent years. It looks similar with other insurers, as well as with the German pension insurance. In 2020, a total of 41.5 percent of all those entering retirement due to reduced ability to work were due to mental health problems. According to the Debeka evaluation, depressive and manic disorders dominate with 74 percent, followed by neurotic disorders (11 percent). The proportion of tumor diseases increased at Debeka 2020 from 15.6 percent to 16.9 percent, musculoskeletal disorders made up 14.1 percent after 12.6 percent. The effects of the corona pandemic cannot yet be identified based on the data from 2020 alone. It usually takes some time before an illness is recognized as the cause of an occupational disability. Last year Debeka paid 63.3 million euros to customers who received benefits from occupational disability insurance. In 2019 it was 61.7 million euros. The money went to men and women who, for health reasons, can either no longer work at all (6670) or only partially (819).
