Sad record. While in France the number of cases and hospitalizations linked to the coronavirus is decreasing, the situation in Russia is, for its part, extremely tense. Moscow has had its worst daily toll since the start of the health crisis, with 144 dead in 24 hours, the worst toll since the start of the pandemic in the country’s capital.
Already hit hard by Covid-19, Russia is even more under pressure since the arrival of the Delta variant, formerly called “Indian”, a few weeks ago. According to the mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, nearly 2,000 people are hospitalized every day because of Covid-19 in the capital. “We have mobilized 20,000 beds, of which 14,000 are currently occupied. It’s a lot, ”he noted on Saturday night on television.
No re-containment at this time
The Moscow capital has reintroduced in recent weeks restrictive measures such as the return of compulsory teleworking for some of the employees, the compulsory vaccination of employees in the service sector or the creation of a health pass to go to the restaurant.
General confinement, as in the spring of 2020, is however not envisaged for the moment in the city of more than 12 million inhabitants. Elsewhere in the country, the situation is not more serene. This Saturday it was Saint Petersburg, the second largest city in the country and host of Euro football matches, which posted a death record with 107 deaths from the coronavirus in 24 hours.
