The machine in which Wagner boss Prigozhin crashed came from Brazil. The aviation authority there told a news agency that Russia did not want to investigate the crash “for the time being” according to international rules.
According to Brazilian sources, Russia is not allowing an international investigation into the plane crash that killed the head of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin. The government in Moscow has informed the Brazilian aviation authority Cenipa that it will “for the time being” not initiate an investigation into the crash according to international rules, the Brazilian Center for Research and Prevention of Aviation Accidents (Cenipa) told the Reuters news agency.

In the interest of improving flight safety, Cenipa had previously stated that it would be invited to join a Russian-led investigation if it was conducted according to international rules. The crashed Embraer Legacy 600 aircraft was manufactured in Brazil. According to the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), based in Montreal, domestic flights, such as Prigozhin’s flight from Moscow to St. Petersburg, are not subject to international regulations.
According to the passenger list, Prigozhin, two high-ranking generals from his Wagner group and four bodyguards were among the ten people on board the plane that crashed north of Moscow last week. The US and other western governments suspect the government in Moscow of being behind the crash of the Embraer Legacy 600, which has a good safety record. The Kremlin denies any involvement. Prigozhin fell out of favor with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the latest after the revolt he led on June 23 and 24.
The Russian authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
Prigozhin buried in St. Petersburg
Barely a week after the crash, Prigozhin was buried yesterday in St. Petersburg. Prigozhin was “adopted” in a small circle, the company Concord, which he founded, explained in the online service Telegram. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov previously said that President Putin would not attend the funeral. The presence of the head of state was “not planned” and the Kremlin had “no precise information” about the funeral, Peskov said.
