Death of Nahel: mortar fire on police and burned vehicles in several districts of Puy-en-Velay

“Small urban violence” according to our sources punctuated the night from Thursday to Friday in Le Puy. Initially, a police emergency crew was brought in to intervene on Avenue d’Ours Mons, for the fire in a Renault brand vehicle. On the spot, the police noted that the fire spread to two other vehicles. The firefighters were naturally called upon to contain the disaster. A local resident indicated that firework mortars had been fired at the level of the Renault vehicle, shortly before the start of the fire.

At the same time, nearby, a crew from the anti-crime brigade was attacked by about twenty masked individuals, who threw firework mortars in their direction. There were no injuries. The police did not use their means of defence. The individuals then fled. There was no arrest.

Reinforcement of the police system

Later around 12:45 a.m., an individual implicated in the fire of three garbage containers on Avenue du Val-Vert, was arrested. Another group of young people managed to escape. The person concerned was taken into custody. The investigation is continuing.

We also know that garbage fires (4 containers with shelter) were observed near Aurec-sur-Loire.

From this Friday, June 30, a reinforcement of the police system will be put in place in the Puy-en-Velay sector, specifically to fight against urban violence. Local police will therefore be called upon and, depending on the escalation – or not – of events, reinforcements from outside Haute-Loire will be mobilized.
