Death of Gérard Leclerc, back-to-school allowance and OM eliminated from C1

Did you miss the news this early morning? We’ve put together a recap to help you see things more clearly.

Gérard Leclerc died suddenly on Tuesday. A small passenger plane on board which were two or three people, including the television journalist, crashed in Lavau-sur-Loire in Loire-Atlantique. The Canal+ group and its colleague Laurence Ferrari immediately deplored the death of the journalist (CNews, ex-France 2) and paid tribute to him, followed by many personalities from the media or the political world. According to a statement released overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday by the Saint-Nazaire public prosecutor’s office, the Robin DR 400 plane took off Tuesday at 11:07 a.m. from Loudun aerodrome (Vienne) bound for La Baule. According to sources familiar with the matter, it was Gérard Leclerc who was piloting the plane, as the president of the Loudun flying club also told local media.

Parents with modest incomes will be able to prepare for the start of the school year more serenely. The back-to-school allowance (ARS), which helps pay for schoolbags and other supplies, will be paid this Wednesday in mainland France and in most overseas departments. In Réunion and Mayotte, where the start of the school year takes place on August 17 and 23 respectively, the payment of the allowance took place on August 1. Granted subject to means testing, the ARS this year amounts to 398.09 euros for children aged 6 to 10, 420.05 euros for children aged 11 to 14, and 434.61 euros for adolescents aged 15 to 18 years old. This aid is subject to a resource ceiling, i.e. 25,775 euros per year for a dependent child, plus 5,948 euros for each additional dependent child.

It’s a fiasco for Olympique de Marseille. Better than in the first leg and no doubt also better than their opponent, the club nevertheless fell from a very high position on Tuesday, falling on penalties against Panathinaikos (1-0; 2-1; 5 pens to 3), from the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League. During the penalty shootout, the Greek strikers were all impeccable, unlike Mattéo Guendouzi, whose mid-height shot was rejected by Alberto Brignoli. The international midfielder was the negative hero of the evening, since it was also he who, after additional time (90+9) and after an interminable intervention by the VAR, had been sanctioned with a penalty which allowed at Panathinaikos to grab an unexpected extension. This elimination is very expensive, both literally and figuratively, with a significant shortfall in economic terms and a sports season that takes on a very dark hue from August 15.
