Death of deputy mayor for security Amine Smihi

A press release from the city of Bordeaux announced this Wednesday the death of the deputy responsible for tranquility, security and prevention, Amine Smihi. “Pierre Hurmic is saddened to announce the disappearance of Amine Smihi, who passed away today from an illness he had been fighting for several months” indicates the municipality.

“Upon hearing of the disappearance of their colleague, the mayor and the entire municipal council express their immense sadness,” the press release continues.

He had taught ten years in vocational high school

After spending his childhood in Seine-Saint-Denis, he studied science at the Institut Gallilé-Université Paris XIII and trained in the CAPLP (competition for access to the body of professional high school teachers) at the IUFM d ‘Antony. He then taught for ten years in a vocational high school in the Paris academy, before joining the Bordeaux academy and the Talence hotel high school.

He also served as assistant principal at the Le Corbusier high school in Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis) then as assistant principal at the Rosa Bonheur college in Bruges, near Bordeaux, in 2020. He continued to teach part-time mathematics and sciences at the Toulouse Lautrec arts high school in Bordeaux.

Amine Smihi was also federal councilor of EELV, member of the party’s security and justice commissions, and activist in the local Bordeaux group. He was appointed deputy mayor of Bordeaux during the election of Pierre Hurmic in August 2020. He was 51 years old.
