Death of an octogenarian “beaten” in Pau: “There was not a single word of support”, the victim’s children denounce an “absolute silence”

the essential
A minor was indicted for “robbery with violence resulting in death” and imprisoned after the death of Marcial, 87, beaten at his home last weekend in Pau. Almost a week after the tragedy, the family denounces the silence of various local officials.

Marcial, an 86-year-old from Pau, succumbed to his injuries this Sunday, November 26, after having been beaten the day before by a 17-year-old young man from Romania and already known for similar acts, according to our colleagues at Figaro. The minor has since been indicted and imprisoned. A second suspect presented himself to the police and has since been exonerated, as noted by the Republic of the Pyrenees.

The octogenarian, a widower for five years, had five children and less than a week after the tragedy they are still in shock. “My clients are revolted by the gratuitous attack on an old man who asked nothing of anyone,” confided Me Thierry Sagardoytho to Figaro. Marcial arrived in France in the 1970s and had worked in construction all his life. He did not present “any ostentatious sign of wealth”.

“We owe maximum attention to our elders”

The lawyer denounces an “absolute silence” in Pau and Marcial’s children condemn the “general indifference” surrounding his death of their father. In fact, neither the MoDem town hall of French Bayrou, the constituency deputy or an association spoke out and had a sign of attention or another “approach” for the family. “There was not a single word of support, of compassion for them,” criticized Me Sagardoytho who added: “We owe maximum attention to our elders throughout the year. Not only during ceremonies greetings or during elections.”
