Death of an employee on the Austerlitz basin site

An employee of a service provider to the City of Paris died on Friday after being hit on the construction site of the Austerlitz basin (12th) in the east of the capital, the city said in a press release.

“The accident took place on the right-of-way of the site located on the right bank, near the forensic institute, below the square Tournaire”, specifies the text. The site employee was hit by a vehicle that was traveling in reverse, according to this source.

“The police and labor inspection services went to the site to make the necessary findings and initiate the judicial inquiry carried out systematically in this type of dramatic situation”, indicates the Paris City Hall, which specifies that a cell of psychological support was activated.

The works, which began in 2021 near the Parisian station of the same name, aim to build a huge wastewater storage basin, with a capacity of around 50,000 m3, in order to avoid their discharge into the Seine. The town hall’s objective is to clean up the river before 2024 in order to organize the Olympic Games events and then bathing areas.
