Bruce Guthro was a member of the Scottish folk rock band Runrig for twenty years. Now he has lost his long battle with cancer.
The frontman of the Scottish band Runrig, Bruce Guthro, has died at the age of 62. The Canadian musician was a member of the folk rock band for twenty years – from 1998 until the group’s last performances in 2018. Now he died after a long battle with cancer, as the BBC and the “Times” reported, citing a statement from the band .
“So sad, from the premature Death of my friend and former bandmate Bruce Guthro,” wrote Scottish politician Peter Wishart, who used to play in the band, on the short message service X.
“He was simply the nicest person you could ever meet and a joy to perform with,” Wishart shared. “An extraordinary singer, musician and songwriter who is gone too soon. We will miss him. RIP.” Scotland’s Prime Minister Humza Yousaf praised Guthro as an exceptional talent.
The folk rock band Runrig (“Loch Lomond”, “An Toll Dubh”) was founded in the 1970s on the Scottish Isle of Skye. With their farewell album, the group landed at number one in the German charts in 2019. The album “The Last Dance” was a live recording of their farewell concerts in August 2018 in Stirling, Scotland.
