Freiburg continues its Bundesliga series at Hertha BSC. After the seventh game in a row without defeat, they are the leaders for a short time. The Berliners are at odds with the next draw.

Nobody from Hertha BSC or SC Freiburg really knew what to do with the draw. With the 2:2 (1:1) the streaks of the two longest unbeaten teams in the Bundesliga held up, but nobody was satisfied.

Due to the point against the Berlin draw experts, Freiburg, who have now been unbeaten for seven games, were leaders for around two hours. Until Union Berlin with the 1:0 at VfB Stuttgart overtook the top rank again. After all, the SC lead over the industry giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund grew back to two points after their 2: 2. Next Sunday we are going to Munich.

Herthas Kempf: “We rarely reward ourselves”

“Now we have a point. I don’t really know what to do with it yet,” said Freiburg’s defense chief Matthias Ginter on the DAZN streaming service. “I think we can be satisfied with that tomorrow or the day after.” Berlin defender Marc-Oliver Kempf didn’t look too happy with the result either. “We’ve put in a lot of effort in the last few weeks and we’ve rarely rewarded ourselves,” he said. “Of course we’re proud that we haven’t lost five games. Still, one or the other point isn’t enough.” Coach Sandro Schwarz just called the next draw “annoying”.

Daniel-Kofi Kyereh (22nd minute) and Kevin Schade (78th) – favored by a mistake by Hertha goalkeeper Oliver Christensen – scored the goals for the guests from Breisgau in front of 40,481 spectators in the Olympic Stadium, who died after the Corona failure by head coach Christian Streich and his assistant Patrick Baier were looked after by Lars Voßler as the second temporary coach. Dodi Lukebakio (34th/penalty) and Suat Serdar (61st) scored for Hertha, which drew for the fourth time in a row and, after the fuss about the separation from millionaire investor Lars Windhorst, remained just before the relegation zone with eight points .

Windhorst? – The Hertha fans in the east curve initially ignored the name of the unloved financier. Only after the final whistle was the big banner unrolled again with the words that the financial entrepreneur is no longer wanted in the club, to put it politely. The turbulence of the past few days should have had no effect. Schwarz had already postulated that, at least from a sporting point of view. Ball control, security, that’s what both teams had prescribed in the Berlin sunset mood.

Serdar scores to 2:1, Schade equalizes

It became clear within a few minutes that Freiburg can play football better. Ritsu Doan threw up the Hertha defense several times. Christensen was initially able to parry against Kyereh (21st) which is worth seeing. But a minute later, the attacker shot in nicely freed by Doan to take the lead. Not giving up is a virtue that Hertha learned under Schwarz. During the next attack via Lukebakio, Christian Günter blocked a shot from Stevan Jovetic with his hand. Lukebakio converted the penalty safely.

Freiburg wasn’t that lively, not that active, maybe just not fresh after the 2-0 win in the Europa League against FC Nantes on Thursday evening. Serdar hit the corner with a low shot to Hertha’s lead. But it wasn’t enough for the first home win, because the native of Potsdam Schade shot in to equalize a few minutes after his substitution after a Christensen blunder. “I have to learn from the mistake so I don’t make it again next week,” said the unfortunate Hertha keeper.
