“Quick freeze” is the name of the alternative to data retention operated by FDP Minister Buschmann. The idea is nice, but not new – and it has remained on the back burner for good reason.

Whoever it was who came up with the idea of using the much cooler name “Quick freeze” for the planned new security order under Section 100g, Section 5 of the Code of Criminal Procedure has certainly received a commendation from the Federal Ministry of Justice. Or at least in the FDP headquarters.
