Darmanin confirms the dissolution of the Uprisings of the earth this Wednesday in the Council of Ministers

Gérald Darmanin announced that he would present Wednesday in the Council of Ministers the decree of dissolution of the environmental collective the Uprisings of the earth (SLT). Responding on Tuesday to a question from Renaissance MP Thomas Rudigoz, who denounced the violence that occurred between the police and environmental activists during the demonstration against the Lyon-Turin rail link, the Minister of the Interior defended the decree dissolving the SLT, arguing that “no cause justifies injuring police and gendarmes”.

Monday, a source close to the file had assured AFP that this decree, blocked for more than two months, would be presented this Wednesday in the Council of Ministers, except last minute surprise. The demonstration on Saturday in Savoie against the Lyon-Turin rail link was “prohibited” and this ban had been “confirmed twice by the justice of our country”, declared Gérald Darmanin, castigating the participation of elected representatives of the Republic in this gathering.

Several mobilizations

Last Wednesday, President Emmanuel Macron had pressed, in the Council of Ministers, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne to give the green light to the decree of dissolution prepared by Gérald Darmanin. A few hours later, in front of the senators, government spokesman Olivier Véran immediately assured that the decree would be taken very quickly.

The Uprisings of the Earth had been questioned the previous weekend during a demonstration in Loire-Atlantique against the extension of a sand quarry, due to violent punching actions. This motley collective made the headlines for its actions against the basins of Sainte-Soline (Deux-Sèvres) last fall and in March. In March, the banned demonstration gave rise to violent clashes between the gendarmes and opponents of these water reservoirs.

A few days later, the Minister of the Interior announced the launch of the procedure for the dissolution of the SLT, which proved to be very complicated legally, being a de facto grouping of associations and groups. A de facto grouping is not formally declared to the public authorities.
