A setting like in a crime thriller: False passports, cash, gold and weapons were confiscated in Daniela Klette’s apartment. The former RAF terrorist is accused, among other things, of attempted murder and is in custody.

According to a media report, the suspected former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette hoarded 1.2 kilograms of gold in her Berlin apartment. The police also found 40,000 euros in cash and a pistol with two full magazines there. “Spiegel” reported on Friday. The 65-year-old Klette is being investigated for involvement in attacks by the Red Army Faction (RAF) and for robberies.

She was arrested in Berlin last week after being in hiding for more than 30 years. The money and the pistol were hidden in a wooden cupboard with a false bottom in the one-room apartment, the “Spiegel” reported.

At least one of the weapons is said to have been used in a robbery

A jammer, numerous cell phones and ID cards, a balaclava and documents related to the RAF were also found in two suitcases. On an Italian ID card, Klette bore the name “Claudia Bernadi”. There was an automatic rifle and live ammunition packed in Tupperware containers stored in the closet. The police also found a bazooka with a warhead.

According to the report, at least one weapon hidden in the apartment came from an RAF raid on a weapons store in Maxdorf, Rhineland-Palatinate in 1984. Investigators had been searching for the pistol for 40 years, the magazine reported.

Klette is in custody in Lower Saxony. The Verden public prosecutor’s office accuses her and her fugitive alleged accomplices Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg of armed robberies that they are said to have committed between 1999 and 2016 in order to finance their underground life.

On Thursday, an arrest warrant from the Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Karlsruhe, which has been in existence for six years, was opened to Klette. Accordingly, she is strongly suspected of two counts of attempted murder and the attempted and completed explosive explosion as an accomplice.

The search continues for the accomplices Staub and Garweg

It involves a failed attack on a Deutsche Bank building in Eschborn, Hesse, in 1990, a gun attack on the US embassy in Bonn in 1991, and an explosive attack on a new prison building in Weiterstadt, Hesse, in 1993.

Regarding the search for Garweg, the head of the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office, Friedo de Vries, told “Spiegel” that there were “new indications that, for example, indicate a stay in another European country.” Garweg had previously stayed in a trailer lot in Berlin-Friedrichshain for several years. According to de Vries, the police have so far “no relevant information about Staub that would have put us on his trail.”
