Daniel Günther will remain Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein for the next five years. In the state parliament in Kiel, the CDU politician received broad approval in the morning.

A total of 35 votes were required for re-election. 66 votes were cast. 47 MPs voted “Yes”, 15 with “No”. There were four abstentions. The Greens parliamentary group and the CDU parliamentary group together have 48 of the 69 mandates in parliament. The election took place in secret. The members of the state parliament were called up individually for this purpose.

Günter is looking forward to the new team

Daniel Günther took the oath of office. State President Kristina Herbst said: “I wish you luck at work and congratulate you warmly.” Politicians from other parties presented bouquets of flowers to the newly elected Prime Minister. Günther stepped up to the lectern and thanked his old team. At the same time he said: “I’m looking forward to working in the new team. I think it will be challenging times.” The war also had a major impact on Schleswig-Holstein. More people would come into the country and prices would rise.

Cabinet will be sworn in today

In the afternoon the new cabinet will be appointed and sworn in. In addition to the prime minister and the head of the state chancellery, the CDU has five ministers. New are the former mayor of Rostock, Claus Ruhe Madsen, as economics minister, the former state farmer president Werner Schwarz as agriculture minister, and the lawyer Kerstin von der Decken, who will be responsible for justice and health. Karin Prien remains Minister of Education and Sabine Sütterlin-Waack Minister of the Interior. Monika Heinold continues as Minister of Finance for the Greens. The 29-year-old Aminata Touré takes over the social department. The previous State Secretary Tobias Goldschmidt will become Environment and Energy Minister.

Difficult tasks for the new state government

The CDU and the Greens signed their coalition agreement in Kiel yesterday. In it, the alliance formulates ambitious goals, especially in the area of ​​climate protection. By 2040, Schleswig-Holstein is to become the first federal state to become climate-neutral. Another focus will be energy policy. Due to the Ukraine war, the expansion of renewable energies is to be pushed ahead quickly. The corona pandemic is not over yet. The new state government must also prove itself here.
