Daniel Barenboim conducts again – culture

“My health,” announced world-renowned conductor Daniel Barenboim in early October, shortly before his 80th birthday, “has deteriorated in recent months and I have been diagnosed with a serious neurological condition.” The music director of the Berlin State Opera then canceled all performances. There was lively speculation that he would no longer conduct at all, that the State Opera would have to find a successor as soon as possible. But now Daniel Barenboim is back as a conductor. He has announced that he will conduct the two New Year’s concerts with his Berlin Staatskapelle. The program features, typical for this occasion, Ludwig van Beethoven’s last symphony. Apparently Barenboim is doing better again. And music is the best medicine anyway. Not just for musicians.
