Smoking cannabis is prohibited in the English Garden from this Thursday. The same applies to the Hofgarten opposite the State Chancellery and the Finanzgarten. The corresponding change to the park regulations was published during the night and will actually come into force very quickly – as decided and announced by the cabinet.
As of Thursday, it is prohibited to “smoke, heat or vape cannabis products, including the use of e-cigarettes, vaporizers or similar products used for this purpose.” The cabinet recently decided and announced the weed ban for the English Garden – as well as for folk festivals and beer gardens and for the Hofgarten Bayreuth, which is in state hands through the Bavarian Palace Administration.

However, a change in the law is necessary to ban cannabis for folk festivals and beer gardens – and that will take a little longer. The state government is thus implementing its plan to restrict the opportunities for smoking weed as much as possible following the partial nationwide legalization of cannabis. Despite bitter resistance, Bavaria was unable to prevent legalization itself. Among other things, in Bavaria smoking weed at folk festivals, especially the Oktoberfest, is completely banned, anywhere on the entire grounds.
In addition, cannabis products in Bavaria should generally be included in the legal smoking ban, which anyway applies indoors in public buildings, restaurants and cultural and leisure facilities. In addition, the CSU and Free Voters want to ban smoking weed even in designated smoking rooms and smoking areas – and especially in outdoor areas of restaurants and cafés as well as in beer gardens. In addition to burning, the ban should also apply to heating and vaporizing cannabis products.
