When celebrities throw themselves in glittery dresses and judges rant about the correct use of the ball of their foot, you know: “Let’s Dance” is back. The ensemble arouses curiosity.

The RTL program between January and February has something of heaven and hell – at least if you count yourself in the poorly defined category of “German celebrity”. Hell for this species is the jungle camp at the beginning of the year: beans, smelly turds and the constant danger of being able to lose the carefully built image somewhere between outhouse and testicle food. Heaven, on the other hand, is “Let’s Dance”.

Noble robes, beautiful light, and everyone loves each other – if you deduct the statements of the dashing dance judge Joachim Llambi. On Friday (February 17), RTL will open its heavenly gates again. The 16th season starts.

The feel-good setting is possibly one of the reasons why RTL now regularly manages to recruit celebrities for the dance show that have never been seen in any other comparable program. Just think of Barack Obama’s half-sister, who swept across the floor in 2021 and when asked whether the ex-US President was watching RTL, replied: “Maybe.”

At the same time, one could ask in 2023 whether Germany’s all-time tennis star Boris Becker (55) and the mayor of the Ukrainian capital Kiev, Vitali Klitschko (51), will zap in. Becker’s daughter Anna Ermakova (22) – model, lives in London, very similar to her father and arose from an affair with Angela Ermakova – dances along and is even learning German, as she recently revealed to RTL (“Everyone expects me to speak German, because I look like my father”). The ex-wife of politician and ex-boxer Vitali Klitschko, Natalia Yegorova (48), is also there. As a singer, she should have tact.

The two personal details make the heart of everyone who at least peeks into the gossip columns from time to time beat faster. But RTL has also put some interesting candidate names on the list. Model Alex Mariah Peter (25) dances along, who was the first trans woman to win the “Germany’s Next Top Model” format in 2021. With Ali Güngörmüs (46), a top chef ventures away from the pots onto the dance floor.

The fact that celebrities in 2023 will also and above all be negotiated online is shown by several candidates who are not known from the “Tagesschau”, but are known from their smartphones. Frankfurt’s Younes Zarou (25) plays to a huge audience on Tiktok, Sally Özcan (34) is one of the best-known baking and cooking YouTubers. Jens “Knossi” Knossalla (36) calls himself “King of the Internet”. According to his own statements, he has “never” danced before.

The planned position of the athlete, who now wants to prove it to everyone while dancing, was awarded twice this year: Firstly to the former handball world champion Michael “Mimi” Kraus (39), whose role model was handball colleague Pascal “Pommes” Hens (42), who surprisingly won the 2019 dance show. However, Kraus faces strong competition: With ex-professional gymnast Philipp Boy (35), a second athlete tries out waltz, rumba and foxtrot – one who should bring a lot of flexibility.

With Timon Krause (28), even a so-called mentalist laces his dancing shoes – as a kind of magician who works with psychological elements.

The question is whether that will benefit him. So far, no one has managed to conjure up one of his tough judgments from the brain of juror Joachim Llambi, who will again evaluate the dances alongside Motsi Mabuse and Jorge Gonzalez.
