Daimler Truck – truck builder wants to raise prices – economy

This Thursday, Daimler Truck will start series production of its first battery-electric truck in Wörth. An important step, after all, more than every second commercial vehicle with a battery or hydrogen drive will be sold in 2030. But at the same time, company boss Martin Daum is dampening sales expectations for the entire vehicle fleet. The reason: the ongoing chip crisis.

“We will definitely deliver less than we could have sold, and that will also apply to next year,” he said on Tuesday. How high the failures are cannot be said. “It’s a fight for every chip.” The truck industry was largely spared the lack of chips in the first half of the year, but the problems have now also arrived here.

At the same time, Daum is preparing customers for the unpleasant: “Of course we will also increase prices next year,” he said. Because in addition to the chips, raw materials such as steel and aluminum have also become more expensive. Only last week the shareholders of Daimler gave the green light for the spin-off from Daimler Truck. The company is expected to be listed on the stock exchange by Christmas.
