A garland with lots of colorful little cards has been hanging on the church steps of the parish church of St. Jakob for a few days. They all have a different word on them, but their meaning in German is always the same: peace. If you read this message these days, you will become painfully aware once again how much you take for granted that there is peace in Europe. But one has to admit that for far too long people have ignored the fact that the war in Ukraine has not only been going on for two weeks but has actually been going on for eight years – and hardly anyone has looked closely enough. The colorful flags are a symbol of peace, but also an appeal not to look away.
