Dachau: German-Polish Culture Days – Dachau

The third German-Polish Culture Days are taking place in Dachau. It is an attempt to improve relations between the two neighboring countries, despite all the political upheavals – and not to forget the past.

What did Andrzej Stasiuk write again? Jan Kwiatkowski laughs out loud at the following sentences of his compatriot, Poland’s most important contemporary author: “I try to imagine a crying German, and I can only giggle. I can’t even imagine a crying German. At most an immigrant with a German passport”, writes Stasiuk, an extraordinarily keen observer, in “Dojczland”, the ironic report of a literary guest worker on a reading tour of the Federal Republic. Kwiatkowski likes this. “I have to read the book,” says the 36-year-old. Germans would be considered somewhat emotionless. But he also says straight away, so that there is no discordant tone, not all Poles think it depends on which part of the country they come from.
