Dachau district office warns of illegal street collections – Dachau

In some districts of Karlsfeld and Dachau, leaflets announcing a street collection for this Thursday, January 20, by a family have appeared in mailboxes. As the district office reports, these collections have not been approved and are therefore illegal.

The family, who are apparently traveling throughout southern Germany, asks, among other things, for electrical devices to be made available on the street. However, because of the critical ingredients, these are to be classified as hazardous waste and do not belong in the hands of unknown collectors, according to the district office. A collection or return of waste electrical equipment may only be carried out by municipal waste management, relevant sales outlets and manufacturers of electrical equipment. According to the district office, every owner of old electrical equipment is therefore obliged to dispose of it in one of these ways.

According to a press release, the collectors usually only select certain parts from the items provided. The rest is “disposed of” illegally in the countryside. This waste would then have to be collected and disposed of at the expense of the general public. Every year, thousands of tons of old devices would end up in such banned collections “in third world countries, where the environment is destroyed through improper handling”.

The district office therefore asks not to support such collection calls under any circumstances and to dispose of old electrical equipment via the recycling yards.
