Cyprien Sarrazin wins the second Kitzbühel downhill and achieves a historic double

Cyprien Sarrazin could give himself the right to put on a show at the finish of the descent of the legendary Streif in Kitzbühel this Saturday. Already author of a historic race the day before, the Frenchman achieved a double, the first for a Frenchman since Luc Alphand in 1995, during a lightning run. Sarrazin offers himself, at the same time, a fifth victory in the World Cup after this resounding success, his fourth of the winter and his third in downhill.

However, Marco Odermatt (n°7) set the tone for the day’s descent. The Swiss took all the risks and crushed the time of Ryan Cochran-Siegle, provisional leader. This was without counting on Cyprien Sarrazin (bib no. 8) already leading after 30 seconds before consolidating his lead in the high-speed curves and once again proving himself the fastest in the perilous traverse. Exceptional, the Haut-Alpin exulted with 91 hundredths ahead of the Swiss, its great winter rival.

Bib number 18, Adrian Smiseth Sejersted took all the risks and threatened first place before making a mistake on a jump. With this historic double and his victory in Bormio, Sarrazin is now 6 points behind Odermatt in the specialty World Cup rankings. The next two descents will take place in France, in Chamonix on February 2 and 3.

Muzaton and Allègre in the top 10

Behind the untouchable Odermatt-Sarrazin duo, the Italian Dominik Paris once again took 3rd place (+1”44). The day was also good for the French Maxence Muzaton (+1”72) and Nils Allègre (+1”76) who finished in 5th and 8th place after convincing runs. Matthieu Baillet took 17th place (+2”29) while Adrien Théaux finished 25th (+2”88).
