Jonas Vingegaard started the new season in Galicia. A violent Atlantic storm prevented a victorious start.

Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard is reserved in his Cycling season started. The Dane only finished 45th in the opening time trial of the Spanish stage race O Gran Camiño in A Coruña.

European champion Joshua Tarling secured victory; the Briton was 2:26 minutes faster than Vingegaard. The race ends after four stages on Sunday.

Due to an Atlantic storm with sideways gusts of almost 80 kilometers per hour, the 14.8 kilometer long battle against the clock was removed from the overall classification. Only the winner of the day was determined. The riders were also on road bikes that were less susceptible to wind. Vingegaard therefore decided not to undertake a trip that was too risky.

Vingegaard had already started his season the previous year with the small race in Galicia. The 27-year-old won three stages and the overall classification. Before the tour, Vingegaard also has the Tirreno-Adriatico races in March, the Tour of the Basque Country in April and the Critérium du Dauphiné in June on his racing program. The tour begins on June 29th in Florence.
