Cycling. La Vuelta Femenina – Demi Vollering wins everything, Labous and Muzic in the top 5

After a great week of racing, the 10th edition of La Vuelta Femenina by Carrefour.es ended this Sunday. And at the end of this 8th stage, which we could consider a “queen” stage, with its departure from Madrid and the arrival at the summit of Valdesqui, it is Demi Vollering which imposed itself. After her “defeat” last year, the Dutchwoman of Team SD Worx – Protime took his revenge by raising his arms with his Red jersey and therefore winning The Vuelta !

Vollering crushes the race, Muzic confirms

From the first kilometers, the race is rather lively, with a good number of runners who want to join the breakaway, but it is difficult to create. A group of around ten girls finally formed, put the peloton on watch and left no more than 1’30” ahead. But in the first difficulty of the day, the Puerto de la Morcuera (13.2km at 6.4%, summit 33km from the finish), it comes together alone. Karlijn Swinkels (UAE Team ADQ) begins the final climb of the day, that of Valdesqui (12.4km at 4.9%) with 1’20” ahead of the peloton, where we only find around twenty runners, including all the favorites.

Grace Brown (FDJ-SUEZ) sets a big pace and Swinkels gets taken back. While 6 kilometers from the finish, the Red jersey herself, Demi Vollering (Team SD Worx – Protime), goes on the offensive. No one can follow her, whileElisa Longo Borghini (Lidl-Trek), 2nd overall, is in big difficulty. Vollering quickly takes a good lead over its competitors and seems to be flying towards victory. At 3 terminals from the line, the Dutchwoman is 45 seconds ahead of Miejanne Markus (Visma | Lease a Bike) and Evita Muzic (FDJ-SUEZ). Elisa Longo Borghini it clocks in at over a minute. While Juliette Labous (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL) and other competitors are located between these two groups. And so it is Demi Vollering who wins at the top of Valdesqui! Total triumph for the Dutchwoman, who therefore wins this Tour of Spain. Behind, Evita Muzic came to get a good 2nd place on this 8th stage, which confirms its excellent week. Riejanne Markus completes the podium of the day.

Thanks to the gaps created in this finale, Markus snatches 2nd place overall from Longo Borghini, who goes down a step. In 4th and 5th positions, we find the two French women Juliette Labous (4th) and Evita Muzic, who scratches a place and therefore finishes 5th! Despite Niamh Fisher-Black (Team SD Worx – Protime), victim of a fall on the descent of Puerto de la Morcuera, who slipped to 7th position.
