Double winner: Leverkusen’s cup victory in the pyro hell of Berlin: The pictures from the final

Bayer Leverkusen wins the DFB Cup and takes the double. But the Werkself had to wait until that point. The passionate FCK fans also played a part in that. The pictures from the final.

Bayer Leverkusen crowned its almost perfect season with just one defeat with the cup win in Berlin (you can find the match report here). However, the Werkself had to tremble at times before they could raise the cup into the Berlin sky. The underdog from Kaiserslautern threw everything into it and fought bravely for a long time. The second division team was cheered on by a frenetic crowd of supporters who had apparently cleared out an entire fireworks factory and set off pyrotechnics for 90 minutes. In addition, the Leverkusen team were outnumbered in the second half.

In the end, they held on to their 1-0 lead after a goal by Granit Xhaka and lived up to their role as favourites. For coach Xabi Alonso, it is the second title as a coach after the German championship. In the gallery you can see impressions from the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.
