Cut off for nearly twelve hours, traffic has resumed on the A9

Traffic has fully resumed on the A9 motorway in both directions since this morning, at 5:30 a.m. But the heavy goods vehicle accident which occurred on Tuesday around 5:35 p.m. between the Nîmes Ouest (No. 25) and Gallargues Aigues-Mortes (No. 26) interchanges caused very significant disruption for twelve hours. The motorway was closed in both directions for several hours, while the accident caused up to 31 km of traffic jams on the A9 and surrounding roads, which were completely clogged.

The heavy goods vehicle, which was traveling in the direction of Orange, crossed the roadway, lost part of its load of industrial paint and found itself lying on all the lanes in the opposite direction. The driver, injured, was transported to Nîmes University Hospital. This event led to an immediate shutdown of the highway in both directions of traffic.

Traffic towards Spain was able to resume at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, while traffic towards Orange was restored at 5:30 a.m. The repair and cleaning operations lasted most of the night.
