Peregrine, or peregrine falcon in German, has been in the air since Monday, at 7:18 a.m. universal time. However, it is not one of those elegant, agile and super-fast birds of prey that strikes its prey in the air. This Peregrine will not kill blue tits or chaffinches, but will spiral up out of the earth’s atmosphere towards the moon, and has little in common with the falcon that gives it its name. The space probe is a kind of box-shaped transporter with a side length of two by two and a half meters, built by the private company Astrobotic, financed by the American space agency NASA. This parcel service has cargo from several countries on board, including such bizarre things as the ashes of the deceased, which a space funeral company literally shoots onto the moon, but also a device for measuring cosmic radiation, called the M-42, which German Aerospace Center. The lunar soil with its hydrogen deposits and magnetic fields will also be examined. Probably lands Peregrine in six weeks, on February 23rd, in the Sinus Viscositatis region of the Earth’s satellite and will then work for 192 hours.
