Cum-Ex trial: Defendant Olearius sees himself as a victim of an economic campaign

In the Cum-Ex trial, the Warburg banker quotes Kafka and portrays himself as being hunted by the media, authorities, financial regulators and the judiciary. But there is no admission of guilt.

On the eve of the trial before the Bonn regional court, Christian Olearius said he caught something on his back, the sciatic nerve. Nevertheless, he stood up this Monday morning after the judge opened the session. He pulls the microphone towards him and starts talking. Maybe he has to sit down straight away, he adds, but at the start he wants to stand, to appear steadfast, so to speak. His hands are still shaking slightly; it almost seems as if the 81-year-old is clinging to his lecture manuscript.
