Culture and leisure tips from TV presenter Sebastian Meinberg – Munich

Sebastian Meinberg is mainly through the TV show “Pulse – quality television you can trust” of the BR youth channel Puls. In his new show “Fact or Fake” he deals with the distinction between truths, falsifications and deceptions in messages, images or videos. He asks his prominent studio guests questions about these topics.

Monday: Broaden your horizons

Last chance: The self-portrait of the Ukrainian artist Lesia Khomenko can only be seen this Monday in the exhibition “A Letter from the Front” in the Haus der Kunst.

Every week, indeed every morning, begins with a look at the news apps on the cell phone – what new catastrophes has the night brought? Or is there hope? Sure, the war against Ukraine will probably not let anyone go. Of course I try to stay up to date, but instead of constantly updating the live ticker, I would like to broaden my view: to this country that is fighting so bitterly for freedom, to the people who fear for their lives the Ukrainian society and its culture. That’s why my path today leads to the Haus der Kunst in Munich. There you can see (only today!) the Exhibition “A Letter from the Front”. Audiovisual art by artists from Ukraine will be shown. The projects tell of Ukraine shortly before the war, are said to be partly unfinished and thus tell of the war – because some of the participating artists are trapped in besieged cities. And their art can only be presented in the form it has just been stored in clouds and web platforms.

Tuesday: Clean up and do good

You know what? Today I intend to do something good. me and others. I’ll go through my drawers, the closets, maybe I can still get through the basement. Sure, I cleaned out during lockdowns – but there’s definitely more to it, with more value to others than me. I would like to donate what is still really good. Or make money online that others may need more urgently. The best thing about it: the anticipation of tidy cupboards, a basement with space again! And at the same time the good feeling of doing something good.

Wednesday: puzzle along

In the middle of the week I decide against the world outside and for my sofa. Distraction and relaxation are also good these days. And who knows, maybe I’ll even be “lucky” and Wednesday evening will support my plan with classic April weather. I’ll invite friends over to have a cozy TV evening together – we’ll watch my new one BR show “Fact or Fake” in the BR media library. Light entertainment, but with added value. The program is about curious videos from the internet, about supposed folk wisdom, which we discuss together with prominent guests and check for their truthfulness. In the end, it always comes down to the question: Is what we are seeing right now fact or fake? Perhaps you would like to join the puzzle? You will be amazed, you can also learn something about video manipulation from absurd animal videos. Oh yes, it’s Wednesday and that’s when the Champions League is on, I know. If you prefer to watch, no problem: all episodes of “Fakt oder Fake” are in the BR media library anyway.

I love it when Thursday feels like little Friday and you start the weekend with relish. Actually, that doesn’t make any sense in my day-to-day work, because my Friday is a normal working day, and it often lasts quite a long time. So letting it rip on Thursday always ends suboptimal for me. I’m not in a party mood at the moment anyway – but I take the “enjoyable” literally today! My evening begins in what I consider to be one of the best tapas restaurants in Munich. The Teatro Tapas It’s close to Rosenheimer Platz, but it feels more like being in Madrid when you walk past the long glass counter, holding a small slip of paper to choose from 30 to 40 dishes. Three to four tapas bowls are actually enough per person – there will probably be more again. Because there are not only the Spanish classics here, but also delicious creations: I really hope that the zucchini flowers with goat cheese will be back. By the way, I can say that from my own experience: vegetarians (though better: pescetarians) will find what they are looking for here. And after dinner, a light beer in the Johannis Café, which is so pleasantly authentic and at the same time bizarre that it is often described as a rather hackneyed “cult”. But because the experiences in this pub are difficult to put into words anyway, I leave it and just go there.

Friday: Dolce vita and heartbreak

Celebrity tips for Munich and the region: Fantastico: The Italo-Schlager-Combo Roy Bianco & Die Abbrunzati Boys may be from Augsburg, but bring with their new album "Mille Grace" Dolce vita again in the living room at home.

The evening belongs to the best fake band of all time. And after all, I know my way around fakes. The new album “Mille Grazie” by the Italo-Schlager-Combo will be released this Friday Roy Bianco & The Abbrunzati Boys. Some say the band is a satire on the pop song, an ironic homage to Italy as we know it from vacation, while others find the clichés too thick and the German-Italian gibberish silly. And yes, that the band claims to be famous and successful in show business for decades, although the musicians themselves have not been around that long (and also come from Augsburg), that can be found strange. Or fantastico! Of course I agree with the latter judgment. And that’s why I’ll treat myself to the new album at the end of the working week in the living room. Maybe with a glass of Chianti and at a higher volume. That must be allowed on Friday night.

Saturday is of course Bundesliga. In addition, the Bavarian-Swabian derby, FC Bayern receives FC Augsburg. Why not finally go back to the stadium? FCA won the first leg in November 2-1. Who knows, maybe the match will also offer potential for surprises…

Sunday: Up the Kofel

Just get out, just have some peace, preferably even be alone. That’s why not much comes from me now: I’m going to hike to the Kofel. I can recommend you. Just not this Sunday (if you’ll do me that favor).
