Crossing the United States on an electric scooter, Emmanuel’s crazy bet

The electric scooter is a practical means of transport in the city. But, it can also become the object of a challenge. This is the case for Emmanuel Avalle, who decided to cross the United States on a scooter. On April 7, he embarked on this human and unusual adventure, from Los Angeles to New York.

Preparing for the trip since December, the 28-year-old had deliberately terminated his contract with Danone, in Lyon, to be able to start. The opportunity for him to push his limits, and “to discover himself” in the United States.

A journey with Brigitte »

It is therefore in the company of his electric scooter, nicknamed “Brigitte”, that Emmanuel has already traveled “more than 5,000 km”. With an average speed of 21 km/h, the adventurer has been driving for five hours a day for three months already. Difficult to avoid pain in the buttocks…

If he chose this means of transport, it was to make the most of his experience: “I was looking for a slow means of transport to be able to immerse myself in the country, and which forces me to go towards people”. But if the scooter is a “tremendous vehicle for encounters”, it is also quite a headache when it has to be recharged.

From motels to campsites, the rolling adventurer must always find a way to power the battery of his scooter. While motorway rest areas or rented rooms are fine, it can be more difficult in wild campsites: “I crossed deserted areas, in particular the desert of the Grand Canyon, and I said to myself that if had a galley, I would be really in trouble, ”he admits.

An extraordinary adventure

Currently in Chicago, Emmanuel Avalle has already traveled through Illinois, Wisconsin and Kansas. Sometimes dangerous areas: “I saw a bear in the Sequoia National Park. I was at an altitude of 2,500 meters with my scooter, and I saw her with her young. Luckily, she was far enough away. »

To follow his adventure, it’s on his channel Youtube or his page instagram that will have to be surrendered. Because if Emmanuel Avalle took with him only “three underpants and three t-shirts”, he did not forget his cameras. Which he has to reload almost as often as that of this brave Brigitte…
