Probably only Christian Thielemann can do that: the two classical concerts at Odeonsplatz have been sold out for half a year, which is not so surprising for the Sunday, since Lang Lang plays the piano with the Munich Philharmonic, but for the Saturday it does. 8,000 people first hear three ballet pieces by Giuseppe Verdi, which hardly anyone is likely to know, while Thielemann conducts the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. In general, there is only Verdi that evening, so far not necessarily Thielemann’s core repertoire. But it’s lovely.
