The odyssey begins on Friday evening in Belgium when a truck driver evades control and flees to the Netherlands. We continue to Germany, where the driver and truck are finally arrested.

During an hour-long chase on Autobahn 4, the Cologne resident Police stopped a truck with a chain of nails thrown onto the road. After the tires burst, the 38-year-old continued driving on the rims for about ten kilometers. “Then nothing worked anymore,” said a police spokesman on Saturday morning. The Belgian was taken out of the driver’s cab and temporarily arrested. WDR had previously reported.

According to the Cologne police, the chase began on Friday evening in Belgium. There the driver accelerated when he was about to be checked. He then drove to the Netherlands, where he rammed two military police vehicles that blocked his path. So no one was injured.

According to the police, the 38-year-old then drove across the border into Germany near Aachen, where the escape continued via the A4. After about 60 kilometers, officials near Frechen threw out the nail chain to stop the driver.

In front of the Heumar motorway triangle, the officers finally managed to catch the driver who stopped. The police spokesman said he allowed himself to be arrested without resistance. Officials were initially unable to provide any information about the motive. The 38-year-old appeared confused, said the spokesman. He is now to be extradited to the Netherlands. After the police car was rammed, the man was being investigated for attempted murder.

The truck also lost loaded cleaning supplies on the escape drive. In order to clear the road, the A4 was temporarily closed during the night.
