A young couple dies, several people are injured. Ibrahim A. has to answer to the court for the knife attack on a regional train in Brokstedt.
A good three months after Brokstedt’s fatal knife attack, the Itzehoe public prosecutor’s office brought charges of murder and attempted murder against Ibrahim A. The Palestinian is said to have attacked passengers on a train from Kiel to Hamburg with a knife on January 25, killing two young people. Five others were injured. “The indictment accuses the accused, who is in custody, of two counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder, each based on the murder characteristics of base motives and maliciousness,” said Itzehoe prosecutor spokesman Peter Müller – Rakov, on Thursday with.
The act in Schleswig-Holstein had triggered nationwide horror and grief. The fatalities are a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old who attended vocational school together in Neumünster and have recently been a couple. He is in custody for two counts of murder and four counts of attempted manslaughter. The man had been released from custody just a few days before the fatal knife attack, which he had served in Hamburg for another crime.
The case concerned the state parliaments in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein because there had been deficiencies in the exchange of important information between the authorities. A few months before his release from Hamburg prison, Ibrahim A. is said to have compared himself to the assassin from Berlin’s Breitscheidplatz, Anis Amri. In custody, the man was noticed several times for aggressive behavior.
The Itzehoe district court must now decide whether to admit the charges and set a date for the main hearing.
