In an art theft in 2019, the perpetrators stole diamonds and brilliants. Five young men from the Berlin Remmo clan were sentenced to prison terms. Now there is another suspect.

The public prosecutor’s office in Dresden has indicted another suspect for breaking into the treasury of the Greens vault raised. The 23-year-old was a member of the five men convicted at the Dresden Regional Court in May, the public prosecutor said on Tuesday.

He is charged with aiding and abetting theft, damaging property and arson. “He is accused of promoting and enabling the crime by driving several participants to their meeting point in Berlin and – after they got caught in a police check – carrying out a targeted diversionary maneuver.”

The art theft from the Treasury Museum happened on November 25, 2019 and is considered one of the most spectacular in Germany. The perpetrators stole 21 pieces of jewelry made of diamonds and brilliants and also caused more than one million euros in damage when they set fire to a power distribution box in the old town and a getaway car in the underground car park of a residential building to cover their tracks. Five young men from the Berlin Remmo clan were sentenced to prison terms. The verdict is not yet legally binding. It was preceded by an understanding between the parties involved in the process. Some of the loot was returned shortly before Christmas 2022.

According to the public prosecutor, the 23-year-old is at large. He had already been arrested in this matter in May 2022 on the basis of an arrest warrant from the Dresden district court – on the fringes of the main hearing against the other suspects. He had attended the proceedings as a visitor. In response to his complaint, the Dresden Regional Court revoked the arrest warrant in early June 2022. Since the accused was an adolescent at the time of the crime, the charges were brought before the District Court of Dresden – Juvenile Court.
