A week after the fatal knife attack on a taxi driver in Berlin’s Grunewald forest, the Flensburg district court issued an arrest warrant for manslaughter against a 24-year-old. The court followed the request of the Berlin public prosecutor’s office, said a spokesman for the German Press Agency on Thursday.

The accused should now be transferred to Berlin. The man was arrested in Schleswig-Holstein last Saturday and has been in custody since then.
The background was initially an extradition procedure for another homicide that is pending at the Cologne Public Prosecutor’s Office. The man is said to have killed his partner in Belgium on April 4 and fled to Germany.
On April 6, he is said to have killed the 49-year-old taxi driver in Berlin. The victim was found by a passer-by. Witnesses were still trying to save the man. However, the taxi driver died in hospital.
Meanwhile, the family said goodbye to the 49-year-old. Numerous taxi drivers also came to the funeral ceremony in the Sehitlik Mosque in Berlin-Neukölln on Thursday.
The father of a 14-year-old son and a 22-year-old daughter is to be buried in his home village on the Black Sea, as his niece told the German Press Agency. “We are in mourning and at the same time in a state of shock,” said the 31-year-old.
